Low-cost carrier Canada Jetlines (JETMF) launched commercial operations on September 22, 2022, with the first flight from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Calgary International Airport (YYC).

“Canada Jetlines (JETMF) is excited to offer service on our inaugural day out of our Toronto travel hub to the vibrant destination of Calgary,” said Eddy Doyle, CEO of Canada Jetlines (JETMF).

“With a focus on leisure travel, we’ve selected Calgary as our first destination for its dynamic touristic options, expansive natural splendor, and reach to a key segment of Canadians,” Doyle added.

The carrier had originally planned to launch operations in spring 2022, but licensing challenges pushed the launch date to August 15 and then to August 29, 2022.

The airline received its final licenses on August 23, 2022.

Canada Jetlines (JETMF) was founded in 2013. Since then, the carrier has experienced near-constant management changes and has struggled to launch operations. Historically, the airline was created to provide ultra-low-cost services to destinations in the United States, Caribbean, and Mexico.

Having selected the Airbus A320 as its standard fleet, Canada Jetlines (JETMF) took delivery of its first A320 from Irish lessor Jackson Square Aviation in December 2021. The A320-200, registered as C-GCJL, is 12.7 years old.

The airline expects to expand its fleet further and operate a total of 15 planes by 2025.
